My concentration revolves around pulling out patterns and creating abstraction from life that I observe around me. I was drawn to bold black and white contrast and clean lines so I followed that concept and looked for bold patterns in my surroundings. I gradually stopped trying to follow the photo reference perfectly and just took the pieces I found important from the photo and added new elements to the painting until I was satisfied with it. This was when I made my turn toward design and abstraction, and I began focusing on the elements of design such as movement, contrast, and balance. My second big breakthrough came when I decided to delve into color theory. From there I was able to explore different color schemes and learn how to create movement through Hans Hoffman's theory about the push and pull of colors. I carefully chose where each color in my palette was placed to pull certain objects to the foreground and push other objects back, so the eye is able to move freely around the painting without being distracted by a certain section. I finished off my concentration by combining the elements of design and color theory to create abstract pieces that were inspired by everyday life.
